Have you ever considered Portugal for your destination wedding?

When you’re planning a wedding, you have almost infinite options to design your big day. And while some couples like to keep it traditional and celebrate this ceremony in their hometown, the truth is that more and more people decide to exchange vows abroad.

And if you’re considering a destination wedding, I want to share with you some of my favourite places in Portugal. I know I may be suspect since it’s my home country, but Portugal is truly a beautiful country, where you can find the perfect place to say “I do”, whether you’re looking for a rustic wedding or a ceremony on the beach.

But I won’t keep you any longer! There is no better way to convince you than to show you my suggestions for a destination wedding in Portugal. Shall we go for it?

10 Wonderful Places in Portugal for a Destination Wedding

Algarve needs no introduction at all, but there’s a lot more to discover beyond the beautiful white sand beaches. Far away from the typical tourist rush of this region, you can find one of my favourite options for a destination wedding in Portugal.

Pensão Agrícola is a rural-inspired hotel, with a comfortable and cosy decoration. I had the opportunity to do a photoshoot there and I absolutely recommend this place for a beautiful and intimate ceremony.

The Alentejo is one of the most beautiful regions of the south of Portugal, and it is there that you can find Casa da Volta. This modern farmhouse is a contemporary redefinition of rural living and design with lovely interiors and incredible outdoor areas. If you are looking for a place for an intimate wedding, you really should take a look at this house!

In Portugal, Óbidos is known as one of the most picturesque and well preserved mediaeval towns, and it’s also the home of Rio Prado. The beautiful accommodation has everything you need for the perfect wedding destination, with the possibility of a tailor-made ceremony. But you have to be quick, Rio Prado only takes a few wedding books per year.

If you are familiar with the Douro, you probably fell in love with this magical region at first sight. And it is between the vineyards and the river that you can find Casa do Rio. I think this is such a lovely option to consider if you’re looking for a place where you can enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of Nature! Can you think of something more romantic than say “I do” overlooking the Douro?

My next suggestion takes us back to Alentejo. Just an hour away from Lisbon, Casa no Tempo is another great choice when it comes to an intimate destination wedding. This lovely house blends perfectly with its surroundings and offers you the perfect opportunity to getting married in the tranquillity of this region’s Nature.

Azores is one of the Portuguese archipelagos and, if you haven’t had the opportunity to visit it, you really should put it on your list for the next holidays! This region has nine islands – all of them incredibly beautiful, believe me -, but there’s in Pico that you can find Lava Homes. This small village is ideal for a family vacation – and a destination wedding, of course! Here you can live your special day, surrounded by Nature and an incredible view overlooking the ocean. Just dreamy, right?

São Lourenço do Barrocal was on the readers’ choice awards 2022 and on the gold list 2023 of Condé Nast Traveller. That in itself is a pretty good introduction, right? This wonderful hotel in Alentejo offers the opportunity to combine the peacefulness of Nature with the best comfort. The hotel has wedding service available, with all you need to make your dream day a reality.

Less than an hour north of Lisbon, in Santa Cruz, is Areias do Seixo Charm Hotel & Residences. This charming accommodation combines a rustic look and feels with comfort and elegance, while you can enjoy Nature in its full beauty. The hotel offers the wedding services with all you need to plan and enjoy your special day. On the website you can even get inspired by some of the preview love stories that were celebrated there!

If you’re more into the beach vibes ceremony, Sublime Comporta is the perfect choice for you! This is one of the prime beach locations in Portugal and can also be the right place for your destination wedding. The hotel has a professional team available to help you design this special day and offers you a personalised service. Are you already imagining exchanging vows with this breathtaking view?

And we end this tour around Portugal with an option in the north of the country. Terra Rosa Country House & Vineyards is located in the Minho region, with Nature as its surroundings. This is a wonderful choice if you’re looking for a destination wedding with rustic vibes and a very familiar atmosphere. You can count on a very experienced team to help you get your dream ceremony and party.

Besides being a small country, Portugal has a lot to offer when it comes to breathtaking landscapes and unique places to exchange vows. So, if you’re planning a destination wedding, make sure to consider it in your list of possibilities. And, if you already decided on it and you’re looking for a destination wedding photographer, I would love to meet you and find out if we’re the perfect fit to capture the forever memories of this special day.
