A photographer in Paris: get to know my picks from the city of love.
“We will always have Paris”. From “Casablanca” to all the other romantic movies we grew up with, for me Paris always was an inspiring city. After all, the entire world calls it “the city of love”. And, last January, after a decade since my last visit, I flew all the way from Portugal to Paris for a short break in this city.
Although it’s been around ten years since the last time I’ve been there, I have to say that I really love the city. Paris is full of charm, with a lot to see and discover, even if you have already been there a couple of times. There is something about the incredible museums, the delicious food and, of course, the beauty of the streets, monuments, and thousands of cafes… The entire city is breathtaking! I just wanted to photograph everything!
On this trip, besides wanting to share a little of my passion for Paris with my husband, Helder, I also took the opportunity to meet Marie again. We lived together in Barcelona when we did Erasmus and we haven’t seen each other for a long time.
But enough about me, let’s take the next few minutes to travel back to the capital of France while I share with you some of my picks and must-go spots in the city. And, in the end of this blog post, I also share with you one of my favourite moments of this trip as a photographer. Curious?
A Photographer in Paris: My Picks from this City
It may seem strange that in a city full of huge museums like the Louvre, I choose one so small as the Musée de l’Orangerie, but believe me, this is my favourite one! I love Monet, and this museum highlights his work in the most beautiful way I could imagine! There you can find two oval rooms, where the paintings cover the walls. Also, the rooms have diffused skylights that make you feel like you were in a dream. For a moment, it almost seems that we’re inside the lakes that Monet painted.
This was a first for me. On my previous trips to Paris I had never had the opportunity to visit the Petit Palais and although I didn’t have much time to fully explore it, I really had a great time! I loved the building and the central garden of the palace. If you have time, I think you should put this place on your list of spots to visit, especially because it is free.
And it’s time to talk about food: Monokuts was the best restaurant I met during this trip. This is a super small space that only works by reservation. The food is fabulous and the service is super attentive. You can really see that everything is thought out in detail and the food is cooked with the freshest and most special ingredients. It’s important to say that you don’t have a lot of options and the menu is always different. But I really think that it’s a great choice if you want to try new things and have a different experience.
And the last spot on my list is Montmartre. As a photographer, I really love this neighborhood. I think it’s always a special place to visit, with Place du Tertre and all its painters and artists. But I feel it’s such a shame that this area has become more tourism-oriented, with souvenir shops everywhere which take it so much character. Besides this, I really believe it’s one of the places you should always visit while in Paris.

During my visit to the city of love I had the opportunity to meet and photograph @atripeirinha and @filipe______, who happened to be in town at the same time as I was. Many of you, especially my Portuguese readers, know Sofia – and her many many plants – from social media. They are such a lovely couple, sweethearts with a very special chemistry. I really loved to meet and photograph them!
